Coach suggestions stay on for beginners, so you always know what you could say next, and the first lessons cover greetings, numbers and everyday phrases.
No. You can start speaking on day one and turn on a romanization alongside the Thai, in the conversation and on your vocabulary cards. Thai is written without spaces between words, which is what makes it slow to start reading, so having the sound written out next to it keeps you talking while your reading catches up.
As you talk, in the transcript. A slip like "ขอกาแฟสอง" is highlighted with the fix beside it, "ขอกาแฟสองแก้ว", and a Why? that explains it in a line. The conversation keeps going. Your slips then come back as quick drills, so the fix sticks.
Almost nobody can at first, and reading about them doesn't help — hearing them in whole sentences does. Luma speaks every line out loud, you can replay any sentence as often as you like, and you answer by talking, so the tone comes attached to the word rather than as a rule to remember. Say the phrase enough times and the melody arrives with it.
