Yes. Luma starts at complete beginner (A1): she greets you in Ukrainian, keeps most of the conversation in your own language at first and moves more of it into Ukrainian as you go. Coach suggestions stay on for beginners, so you always know what you could say next, and the first lessons cover greetings, numbers and everyday phrases.
No. You can start speaking on day one and turn on a romanization alongside the Ukrainian, in the conversation and on your vocabulary cards. The alphabet takes a couple of weeks of casual exposure — the letters і, ї, є and ґ are the ones worth learning early, because they're where Ukrainian looks different from the Cyrillic you may have seen elsewhere.
As you talk, in the transcript. A slip like "Добрий день, Олена" is highlighted with the fix beside it, "Добрий день, Олено", and a Why? that explains it in a line. The conversation keeps going. Your slips then come back as quick drills, so the fix sticks.
Both, honestly. The alphabet and a lot of everyday words will feel familiar, so you'll move fast at the start. What catches people out is the words that look alike but aren't, and Russian shapes slipping into Ukrainian sentences. Luma teaches Ukrainian only, and flags those slips as they happen rather than letting them settle in.
Yes. Every day includes a free conversation with Luma, plus basic vocabulary practice. Luma Max unlocks unlimited conversations, all scenarios and full personalization, with monthly and yearly plans and a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan.
Yes. Tell Luma what you need, in your own words, and she builds the conversation around it: a job interview, a doctor's appointment, the market, a call with relatives, small talk with neighbours. There are hundreds of roleplays and lessons to pick from too, at every level.
